Victor Mestas and Mike Abbott Duo
Mike Abbott – Electric and acoustic guitars
After earning his Music Degree in 1988 at the University of Miami in Florida, he moved to New York City and started playing clubs, touring the US and Europe, and recording.
Mike has performed with The Rolling Stones’ Horn Section, Randy Brecker, Maria Schneider, Jeff Hamilton, John Clayton, Conrad Herwig, Chie Imaizumi, Sammy Davis Jr., Burt Bacharach, Paul Schaffer, Joey Calderazzo and Marc Copeland.
In 2003. Mike and his family relocated from New Jersey to Denver. In 2012, Mike’s book, The Guitar and Amp Sourcebook, was published by Harper Collins Publishers. This 450-page tome provides an insider’s look into the who, what, where and how of guitar and amplifier development from the dawn of the 20th century to the present day. He has recorded dozens of albums including “Invitation”, “Overjoyed” and “Compared to what” with the CJRO Big Band, “Light and the Muse” featuring Eric Gunnison and “Jimi” with Jeff Jenkins and Mike Marlier. He is currently the Head of Jazz Guitar studies at the University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music.
Victor Mestas – Piano, keyboards
Born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela, Victor studied at “J. A. Lamas School of Music”. He was the endorsement artist for Yamaha musical products in Venezuela since 2001.
His professional background includes more than 100 recordings for international renowned artists, including three CD’s with the Venezuelan songwriter Ilan (one of them got a Latin Grammy Award in 2010).
Mestas has performed (as pianist/ keyboardist/arranger/producer) for renowned bands and singers in Venezuela, including Guaco, Soledad Bravo, Maria Rivas, Cheo Feliciano y Julio Iglesias (Uruguay/Argentina 2010 Tour).
Victor moved to Boulder in 2012 with his wife and two daughters and is performing on the Brazilian-Latin Jazz-World music scene: Dexter Payne, Ginga, Los Chicos Malos and others.
Currently he is conducting the Thompson Jazz Studies Latin Jazz Ensemble and teaching Jazz Piano at CU Boulder.
